Who we help and why ....
We donate $0.10 from every soap sold to the Australian Orangutan Project ("AOP") to the continued sponsorship of Marsha the Orangutan.
We have previously used palm oil in our soaps. Palm oil is the biggest threat to the survival of the Orangutan. According to the AOP website 6% of the world's forests are being lost every year to palm oil plantations - many of which are illegal - and the destruction of these forests is destroying the Orangutan's habitat. We'd like to point out that we ensured that the palm oil we used was sourced from a sustainable plantation and did not impact on the Orangutan in anyway.
We originally began making soaps for people with sensitive skin to use. We found it difficult to produce a soap that wouldn't irritate sensitive skin that used any oil other than palm oil. We've now formulated a palm oil free recipe that doesn't irritate sensitive skin. We no longer make soaps with palm oil in them and once our current stock of soaps containing palm oil is gone that will be the end of palm oil in our soaps but it wont be the end of our support of Marsha and the AOP.
When shopping try to buy products that are palm oil free (good luck) or contact the manufacturer to see where they source their palm oil from and make sure its a sustainable, Orangutan friendly plantation like we did. And most importantly check out the AOP website http://www.orangutan.org.au/home.html and join up to help them make a difference and save the Orangutan. If you live in Australia or New Zealand join the campaign to have palm oil clearly labelled on food packaging http://www.zoo.org.au/PalmOil
